Joe Martone

Joe is a musician currently living in Baltimore, MD.  His primary instruments are the double bass and the electric bass.  Joe is available for performances, studio recording, composing, arranging, and private lessons.

Joe began playing music and taking lessons on the electric bass guitar at the age of 12 and soon thereafter began learning music from his favorite rock n' roll bands.  He played in many rock groups with friends and in jazz band throughout middle school and high school.  In 2003, Joe enrolled at the University of Maryland - Baltimore County where he began lessons on the double bass and in composition.  He participated in the Symphony Orchestra, Baroque String Ensemble, Jazz Big Band, small Jazz combos, free improvisation ensembles, and the Pep Band.  He studied electric bass with Billy Kemp and double bass with Tom Baldwin and Laura Ruas.

In 2008, Joe earned his B.A. in Music Composition from UMBC and in 2011 earned his post-baccalaureate Certificate in American Contemporary Music Composition from UMBC.  He studied composition with Dr. Linda Dusman and Dr. Stuart Saunders Smith.

in 2012, Joe was commissioned by the Arts Council of Calvert County to compose a piece of music for the jazz band at Southern Middle School in Lusby, MD. His piece Circus Parade was premiered on May 15th, 2012.
